Profile

Cricket has seen fascinating travel stories and Johann Myburgh has his own trysts travelling from one country to the other, trying to play some international cricket. But alas, not every journey ends with the proper destination. This journey started off in the 1997-98 season.

In 1998, Myburgh scored a double ton and at the age of 17 years became the youngest to do in South African domestic cricket. That kick-started an adventurous time with Northerns and he scored prolifically for them till 2005, when then moved to Titans after Northerns merged with Easterns.

Johann moved to New Zealand looking for further opportunities in 2007. But just as when it looked like playing for Canterbury will reap him dividends, he decided to restart the travel process again and moved to England in 2010 with his English wife.

Hampshire signed up the southpaw as part of a Kolpak deal but even that did not work out and neither did a contract with Durham in 2012. 2014 saw Somerset offering him a contract and he has been with the club ever since.

Fact: Johann is the elder brother of Netherlands international - Stephen Myburgh.
